Surface sizing:
Improve the surface smoothness, surface strength, and surface sizing degree of paper, reduce picking, and increase printing quality.

  Reduce pores in paper surface and improve the lipid resistance of paper
Good rheological property and membrane forming property
Strengthen the stiffness and smoothness of paper and control crimping
General amount to use: when used in combination with other materials, its dosage is 10% to 30% of the total colloidal size; when used alone, it is generally made into a solution with a concentration of 0.2 to 1.0%.

The functions of CMC as wet end additive
Improve the binding force of fibers and increase paper strength
As dispersant that can realize better molding
As internal sizing agent and protective colloid for resin size and AKD, etc.
     
  When used in combination with wet strength agent and dry strength agent, it can improve the wet strength and dry strength of paper.
As a wet end additive, CMC is generally used with cationic starch. In this case, it can be first made into a solution with a concentration of 3% and then diluted into a 0.1-0.5% solution before it is added to the wet end.
       CMC can be especially compatible with cationic wet strength agent and the mixture is used in decorative paper, map paper, bond paper, tipping paper, cigarette paper, toilet paper, napkintissues and shoe paper, as well as in newsprint and offset paper.

The application of CMC in coated board
CMC used in coated board can control the rheological and disperse properties of paint, strengthen the water retention, prevent the adhesive migration in paint, and improve the glossiness and whiteness of coated board. There are varieties of coated boards and they are made from various raw materials. The type of CMC to be used in coated board should be determined by the solid content of the paint and the speed. The general amount of CMC to be added is 0.35-1.5%.
